Meet David Rose

David Rose is a drafted conscientious objector combat trauma medic veteran from the Vietnam War. David started doing surgery from necessity at the age of 19 during the war. He served as a medic in the Emergency Room of the 71st Evacuation Hospital and a Dustoff Medic (Medivac Helicopter) with the 283rd Dustoff in Pleiku. Also served with the 91st Evac Hospital ER in Chu Lai.

Following military service, David continued his surgical skills for another 35 years as First Assistant, Direct of Surgery and Chair of the Surgery Committee. Once a medic, always a medic. After retirement, David chose to continue to care for his fellow veterans. Even though David is 100% disabled from service related injuries, he has volunteered his time in various ways. Here are a few of David's veteran accomplishments:
  • Authored 25 books, seven of which are military subjects
  • Campaigned a 1946 Chevy Truck hot rod titled the Vietnam Veteran Tribute Truck. David attended car shows and veteran events to attract veterans to the truck. He invited veterans and first responders to sign the body of the truck and he awarded medals to over 5,000 Vietnam War Veterans. View a video here.
  • Inducted into the Florida Veterans' Hall of Fame - 2018
  • Inducted into the Military Medic Hall of Fame - 2023
  • Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award - 2019
  • Mary Karon Humanitarian Award from the International Society of Ethical Phychology and Psychiatry - 2015
  • Wall of Fame in the Courthouse of Volusia County, Florida and "David Rose Day" December 6. - 2022
  • Vietnam War Commendation Medal from Senitor Rick Scott - 2017
  • Presidential Award Florida Veteran Hall of Fame Society - 2019
  • Operates a veteran grave restoration project titled "Restoration In Peace".
